On Takame, “verified” always means we checked something against a public source ourselves. It never means we recommend an exchange, and it is not a statement that an exchange is legal or safe.
Registers list companies, not brands: Kraken appears as Payward, Crypto.com as Foris DAX. We link a record to an exchange in one of two ways.
These are the same sentences you see on exchange and country pages, with an example country filled in.
Registered
“Registered in Japan.”
A verified match on the register, with an active record.
Registered, with a regulator notice
“Registered in Japan. A regulator in Japan has also published a notice about a company using this brand; the records below show which company is which.”
Both are true for different companies using the same brand; the records show which is which.
Name match, not confirmed
“A company with a matching name is on the Japan register. We have not yet confirmed it is the same business.”
Only the company name matches (see above).
Regulator notice
“A regulator in Japan has published a notice about it. Read the notice before you deposit.”
A verified match on a warning, non-compliance or enforcement list.
FinCEN filing
“Registered with FinCEN in the United States as a money services business, which is a filing rather than a licence.”
A self-filed registration with the US FinCEN. FinCEN does not vet applicants, and it is not a licence.
Struck off
“Was on the Japan register and has since been struck off.”
The record was withdrawn or removed from the register.
Not on the register
“Not on the Japan register we read.”
Missing from the register we read. Not the same as being banned.
Not checked
“We do not read a register for Thailand yet, so we cannot answer this one.”
We do not read a register there yet, so we have no data either way.
A register entry is a fact about a register. Whether a service is allowed for you depends on where you live and what you use it for. We report what the register says and link to it.
“Verified” next to a commenter means that person passed a one-time identity check (face scan and ID document, through FirstPass) before posting. It says nothing about whether their comment is right.
